Important names in bringing technology to the classroom

Posted by admin in

As a future teacher, a parent and a technological immigrant, that means someone who has not grown up with technology, I find there is a war going on in the classroom, tech v classroom management. Schools and teachers are fighting to control the influx of technology in the classroom, yet it is a losing battle. School districts block web sites that general only block out parents and teachers. Instead of making rules to outlaw technology in the classrooms, maybe we should find ways to incorporate the new technology. Instead of taking away the newest gadget, let the student use it for hands on experience.

I have come to the conclusions that not only are we fighting a losing battle in the schools; we are also several years behind in keeping up with technology. In one state, the elected officials want to supply every high school student with a lap top. That might have been a good idea when the lap tops first came out, but smart phones and other new technology are making lap tops the thing of the past. My older daughters bought tabs for Christmas that are so far advanced they can write college papers on it. Less than two months later they are out of date.

There is a whole new world coming down the road and classroom can either ride the wave or be run over by it. The Dean at the college I was attending made this statement. “We are training teachers in 19th century techniques to prepare students to live in the 22cd century.” Something is wrong with that picture. Schools and teachers that embrace technology and use every aspect of it in the classroom are the ones that will prepare our children to face the new world. It is high time we change directions in education.
